| Frequently Asked Questions: In order to help you to better understand our services, we present some of the most frequently asked questions: I've never boarded my cat before, will he be OK? How well your cat does during his or her stay at any kennel depends not only upon the kennel environment but also upon his/her attitude towards people, age, past experience with being boarded, and how well he/she responds to being away from a familiar home environment. Does my cat need to have shots? All cats entering The Cat House must be fully inoculated. (proof required upon arrival) Cats need rabies, and all upper respiratory inoculations. We recommend inoculation be done at least 10 days prior to boarding. Please check with your veterinarian to make sure your cat is current on all recommended vaccinations prior to boarding. What do you feed the cats? Can I bring my own food? Will my cat have water? We offer Iams adult dry cat food (it comes in the orange bag) This food is included...there is no extra charge. If you would prefer to bring your own food, or food in addition, to the dry we offer, that is fine. We will make sure your cat is fed according to your instructions. All cats have fresh water available 24 hours a day. You are also welcome to bring cat treats. We have a refrigerator available for canned foods. Do I need to bring my cat's litter box and litter? We can provide a litter box, we use a plastic dish pan that can be secured to the cage so it can't be turned over. We prefer, and use, Johnny Cat cat litter. You may bring your own box and litter if you prefer. The litter we provide is included...there is no extra charge. Will you give my cat his medication? As long as we can handle the cat, we will give your cat required medications for no extra charge. Sorry, we do NOT give injections. What will you do if my cat gets sick? Please leave an emergency number ( your cell phone or a trusted friend that knows how to reach you) when you check your cat in for his stay. In case there is an emergency, we contact you. If we feel your cat needs a veterinarian during his visit, we will either contact your vet or bring your cat to one of several vets readily available in our area. Do I have to sign a contract? Yes. Upon admission for services, your signature of contract acknowledges your awareness and acceptance of our policies. You may stop by the kennel office and take a copy of the contract home if you would like to read it over. Can I bring my cat's bed? Can you wash it if it gets dirty? Yes. You can bring any bedding your cat likes. We would prefer something washable. The kennel is equipped with a washer and dryer and we try very hard to keep all bedding clean and dry. Our favorite cat bedding is polar fleece. You can buy it by the yard in many colors at Jo-Ann's, Hancocks and even Walmart. It washes and is soft and warm for your cat. Will my cat be with other cats? Your cat will be housed in an individual cat run/cage. The cage is approximately 3 foot by 3 foot and has a shelf that the cat can jump on. Cats are never housed together unless an owner has two cats and wants them together. Your cat may be able to see other cats in the room, but there is NO direct contact between the cats. Will my cat be in with "the dogs"? No. The Cat House is a separate building away from the dog kennel. No dogs are allowed in The Cat House. Will you take my cat outside? No. All of the cats remain safely inside The Cat House at all times. Can I see where my cat will be staying? Yes. Tours are always welcome during Office Hours. No one is allowed to walk around the kennel property without being accompanied. During tours parents are asked to hold the hand of their children. All children must be quiet and supervised while on kennel property. Please do not stick your fingers in the cages. How do I pay? How am I charged? Payment can be made by personal check or cash only. Sorry, NO credit or debit cards. You are charged for each night your cat stays. We do NOT charge by 24 hour periods, but rather, by the night. Simply count the nights your cat will be staying and multiply by the rate shown above to calculate your boarding charge. Do I need a reservation to leave my cat? Yes. To be sure there is a place for your cat, please make a reservation. If you change your plans and will not be boarding your cat, please call at any time and leave a message on the kennel answering machine. If you notify us, we can give your space to another client who may have been turned away because the kennel was full. We maintain a waiting list and will try to call a client on the list if there is a cancellation. When can I bring my cat? Please bring your cat during our Office Hours. Why do you have such weird hours? It is our philosophy, after many years of taking care of animals in a boarding situation, that dogs and cats thrive on a routine. They are happier when they know what to expect and when to expect it. Dogs and cats also need to sleep. Our routine, which the dogs and cats learn quickly, includes quiet time when they can sleep. Early each morning the kennels are cleaned, animals are fed, medications given and the dogs walked. Between 8-10 AM animals are checked in and out This is an exciting time, especially for the dogs. At 10:00 AM the lights in the kennel are turned off and everybody quiets down and sleeps. This quiet time to sleep helps reduce the stress level for the animals. The animals are checked on during the day. At 4:00 PM the lights are turned back on, everybody is awake for the evening check in/out. The animals are also fed, medications given and dogs walked in the evening. Then it's lights out again. The animals are checked again during the evening. We sincerely feel that limiting the hours the kennel is open to the public is in the best interest of the dogs and cats in our care. We have found the best way to relieve stress in boarded dogs and cats is to keep them warm, dry and let them sleep. If you watch your cat or dog at home you will notice how many hours of sleep they need. We want our guests to go home happy and well rested. Is the Cat House heated? Do you have AC? The Cat House is heated. It stays nice and warm in the winter. The Cat House does NOT have AC. Four windows, with screens, are opened and a fan is used, if needed, during the summer. The cats are checked often to make sure they are comfortable. Why do you have music playing in The Cat House? We feel that most cats are used to some "background noise" from their homes, As most people usually have a tv or radio playing at home. We feel this may help reduce the stress for some house cats. Can I call and check on my cat? Yes. Feel free to call, during our office hours, to check on your cat. Can I leave my cat carrier? We recommend transporting your cat in a cat carrier. Please leave your cat in the carrier until your cat is safely inside The Cat House. You are welcome to leave your cat carrier in The Cat House while you are away. Should I bring my cat's dishes? We have special stainless steel cat dishes that hook onto the cage. These dishes minimize the cats spilling water and food. But if you prefer to bring your own dishes, that is fine. We prefer metal or plastic, something that won't break. Thank you for your trust in allowing us to care for your cat, a member of your family and of ours. |
